George Xiong, also known as Chia-Chi Hsiung, is a Chinese contemporary artist born in 1948. He began learning Chinese calligraphy at age six and traditional Chinese painting at 14 under Master Chang Tsao-Seng. He graduated from the Central Academy of Design in China with a B.A. in 1970 and later earned an M.A. from the City University of New York in 1989. Based in New York, Xiong's work blends traditional Chinese techniques, such as ink painting and calligraphy, with Western influences, including oil painting and clay sculpture. His art often features landscapes, figures, and themes like retro scenes, women, and nature, as seen in works like Woman in a Straw Hat Seated at a Table Set with a Bouquet of Flowers (auctioned in 2022), Harbor Rose, and Summer's Rest.
